Double Think Lab (Taiwan): Mis/disinformation Playbook

As part of my involvement in this project, I made significant contributions in various capacities. Firstly, I produced two podcasts and accompanying write-ups that addressed the issues of misinformation and disinformation. These podcasts served as a critical resource for educating audiences on the subject matter, and the write-ups provided additional context and insights.

Additionally, I served as one of the topic experts on misinformation and disinformation in Southeast Asia, drawing on my expertise in this field to provide valuable insights and guidance to the team. My contributions were integral in ensuring that the project was informative and impactful, and that the team had access to the most up-to-date and relevant information.

UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Teaching Module for Higher Learning Education

In my capacity as a UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Teaching Module consultant for Higher Learning Education, my primary role is to develop and provide guidance on MIL curricula for universities and institutions of higher education. This involves working closely with stakeholders to create customized teaching materials that meet the specific needs and contexts of each institution.

To achieve this goal, I conduct thorough research and analysis on current MIL practices in higher education, identifying areas where improvements can be made. Based on my findings, I develop and design training materials and curricula that align with the needs of each institution. Throughout this process, I collaborate with educators and other stakeholders to ensure that the curricula are effective, relevant, and up-to-date.

Recently, I had the privilege of working with a team of professors from the National University of Malaysia on a national module on Media and Information Literacy (MIL). This module was designed to be adopted by all public universities in Malaysia, and I was proud to co-write one of the book chapters. This project highlights the impact that MIL can have on higher education and the broader community, and I am committed to continuing this work to promote media and information literacy education worldwide.

Brookings Institution Democracy in Asia Project

As an expert on disinformation and propaganda in Southeast Asia, I had the opportunity to contribute to the Brookings Institution's "Democracy in Asia" project. One of my key achievements in this capacity was the authorship of a policy paper that focused on disinformation operations in Malaysia. This paper was the result of extensive research and analysis of the phenomenon of disinformation in the country, and provided valuable insights into the tactics, motivations, and impacts of these operations.

In addition to my written work, I was also invited to serve as a panelist at a high-level seminar on "Democracy in Asia" organized by the think tank, which was held in Washington DC in December 2022. During the seminar, I shared my expertise and insights on the challenges and opportunities facing democratic systems in the region, with a particular focus on the role of disinformation and propaganda in undermining democratic processes.
