Dr. Nuurrianti Jalli is currently an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the School of Media and Strategic Communications at Oklahoma State University. Prior to her appointment at OSU, she served as a faculty member in various educational institutions across the United States, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Dr. Jalli earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Ohio University and brings over 15 years of professional experience in strategic communications. Her background includes roles as a Public Relations practitioner and a communication strategist for several renowned organizations, such as the Prime Minister's Office of Malaysia, Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the United Nations, UNESCO, ByteDance (TikTok), and the Brookings Institution.

Her work has been featured in a range of notable publications, including The Conversation, the Oxford Reuters Internet Studies Report, Newsweek, the Jakarta Post, the South China Morning Post, and CNA.

Dr. Jalli's research interests span various aspects of media studies, specifically Media and Democracy, Information Disorders, Media and Information Literacy, and Media and Information Warfare. She has a unique focus on Southeast Asia, reflecting her regional expertise and interests.


Dr. Nuurrianti is also a member of the Foundation for Critical Thinking in South Asia (FACTS).

Highlights

For the Asian Conference for Political Communication 2022, I was invited to deliver two presentations in Singapore on the topics of mis/disinformation and online propaganda. As recognition of my expert contributions, I was awarded a travel grant of around $5000 to cover the expenses incurred.

As a panelist at the Brookings Institution Democracy in Asia Project, I contributed to discussions on pertinent issues in the region. Additionally, I authored a policy paper centered on disinformation and cyberoperations in Malaysia. I was fortunate to have received a travel grant of approximately $2500 for my expert contribution.
